Questions & answers

About our care

What is non-medical home care?

It’s help with daily living rather than medical treatment: companionship, personal care like bathing and dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands and transportation to appointments. It suits someone who is safe at home with the right support.

Do you provide medical or nursing care?

No. Caringood provides non-medical home care only. We don’t provide nursing, medical or skilled care. Your loved one’s medical care stays with their own doctors and healthcare providers.

Is Caringood licensed?

Yes. Caringood is a licensed Home Care Organization in California (CA HCO #494700078). We’re locally owned, based in Santa Rosa, and BBB Accredited with an A rating.

Which areas do you serve?

We provide care across Sonoma, Napa, Marin and San Francisco, including Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Windsor. Our office is in Santa Rosa. Tell us where your loved one lives and we’ll confirm whether we can help.

Getting started

How do we get started?

Call or email us during office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM PT), or send the consultation form. Tell us what’s happening, and our care team will talk through the support that would help.

What happens when we meet with Caringood?

We learn about your loved one’s routines, personal care needs, safety, preferences and the family situation. Then we discuss an appropriate care plan and schedule with you.

How soon can care start?

It depends on the care needed and caregiver availability. We’ll always give you an honest answer about timing rather than a promise we can’t keep.

What if my loved one’s needs change?

Care should be reviewed, not simply scheduled indefinitely. Someone coming home from rehab may become more independent; someone else may need more help over time. As circumstances change, we review whether the care plan should change too.

Hours and paying for care

How many hours of care will we need?

It depends on the person. Some families need extensive daily support; others benefit from more focused care. You don’t need to know before you call. We look at daily routines, personal care, family support, meals, transportation and safety, then talk through an appropriate schedule, and review it as needs change.

How much does care cost?

Cost depends on the hours and type of care your loved one needs. We aim to build a care plan around what they actually need, not the most hours we can schedule. Talk with our care team for current rates.

How do families pay for care?

Families may use private pay and, depending on eligibility and policy terms, may be able to use long-term care insurance or qualifying veterans’ benefits. Your insurer or the VA decides eligibility; we’re happy to talk through the options with you.

Caregivers

How do you match a caregiver?

We consider your loved one’s care needs, preferences, personality, schedule, location and caregiver availability. The aim is a good fit, not simply whoever is free.

Will we have the same caregiver every visit?

We aim for consistent caregivers whenever scheduling allows, so your loved one can build a relationship with someone who knows their routines. We can’t promise the same caregiver every visit, and we’ll be honest with you when a change is needed.

What if my loved one doesn’t click with their caregiver?

Tell us. The relationship matters, and we’ll work with you to find a better match.

Services

What does a caregiver do during a full-day visit?

The non-medical support your loved one needs through the day: companionship, meals, personal care, medication reminders, light housekeeping, errands and transportation to appointments.

Is live-in care always available?

Live-in care depends on having a suitable caregiver available. Ask us about current availability and we’ll give you a straight answer.

My parent is private. How do caregivers handle personal care?

Calmly and respectfully, at your loved one’s pace, with their dignity at the center of every routine.

What does a companion caregiver do?

Spends time with your loved one: conversation, walks, hobbies and outings, along with practical help such as meals, errands, light housekeeping and transportation to appointments.

How long is a respite visit?

Respite is planned around the break you need, whether that’s a regular day each week so you can work or rest, or cover while you’re away. We’ll talk through what would help.

What help is useful after a rehab or hospital stay?

Non-medical support with the everyday parts of the day: bathing and dressing, moving around the home safely, meals, medication reminders, rides to follow-up appointments and company. Nursing, therapy and medical care stay with your loved one’s healthcare providers.

Not Sure What Kind of Care You Need? That’s Okay.

You don’t need to know how many hours, what service or what schedule you need before contacting us.

Tell us what’s happening, what your loved one can still do on their own and what’s worrying you. We’ll start there.
